Dera Ghazi Khan, also known as DG Khan, is situated on the west bank of the Indus River at the foot of the Sulaiman range with an average elevation of 10,000 feet at the junction of four provinces in southern Punjab. It is located along the border of Balochistan, so there is a large population of Baloch along with Saraikis.

Dera Ghazi Khan was named after Ghazi Khan Mirani and was founded in the 15th century. It was ruled by Mirani families for many years. It is also the oldest city in South Asia.

The overall climate of the city is generally dry and hot in summer, with little rainfall, but relatively cool in winter. Fort Monroe also gets some snow. Due to the dry and barren mountains of Mount Sulaiman and the desert soil of the area, strong winds are very common in summer. It is included in the list of cities in Pakistan with high temperature in summer.

The people of Dera Ghazi Khan are very poor, and more than 51 percent of the population of Dera Ghazi Khan live below the poverty line. They are ruled by a few rich landlords and Sardars of Dera Ghazi Khan, who also held the most important positions in the government of Pakistan. But the condition of the people of the city is still below standard.

Dera Ghazi Khan is famous for high quality mangoes. There are extensive mango plantations around the city. The main occupation of the people of this city is agriculture. It produces the number of cash crops to meet the country's requirement.

Fort Monroe

Fort Munro, situated at an altitude of 1800 meters above sea level, in the Sulaiman mountain range on the border of Punjab province, 80 km from DG Khan city, has a relatively cool and pleasant climate. Sometimes in winter, there is some snow. So many pilgrims visited Fort Monroe during the winter season.

Tomb of Hazrat Sakhi Sarwar

The shrine of Hazrat Sakhi Sarwar is situated at a distance of 35 km from DG Khan city in Mount Sulaiman. A festival, also known as Singh Mela or Vaisakhi, is celebrated in March and April. It is celebrated by Hindus as well as Muslims.

Tomb of Ghazi Khan

It is the oldest building in the city, and houses the graveyard of 11 members of the Nawab Ghazi Khan Mirani family. The prominent building in the cemetery is Ghazi Khan's mausoleum.

Tomb of Hazrat Shah Sulaiman

Dargah of Hazrat Khwaja Shah Muhammad Sulaiman is located in Taunsa Sharif District DG Khan. It is a good place for spiritual gathering.

Taunsa Barrage It is located on the Indus River north of Dera Ghazi Khan city. It is good for a day picnic spot and also perfect for fishing with families. One can enjoy boating in the river as well as a wide view of the Indus River.
